Getting Your Scrap Car Ready for Pickup
Do these
- Take out everything personal: glove box papers, trunk items, phone mounts, sunglasses, car seats
- Remove your licence plates
- Remove toll transponders and garage door openers
- Have your registration and original photo ID ready
Don't bother with these
- Draining fluids. We handle that properly at the recycling stage. Draining them yourself risks spills.
- Removing the battery or tires. They're part of your offer. Taking them off lowers it.
- Cleaning the car. Garbage inside is fine.
- Emptying the gas tank. Not needed.
Scrap Rules That Protect You
Alberta has rules for scrap and recycling transactions, introduced in 2020 to cut down on metal theft. Legitimate buyers must check the seller's original government photo ID, record the transaction, and pay by a traceable method such as e-transfer rather than cash. Sellers must be at least 18. If a buyer doesn't ask for ID or wants to pay a scrap car in cash, that's a warning sign.
