Sell Your Flood-Damaged Car in Edmonton

Edmonton doesn't get hurricanes, but summer cloudbursts can fill underpasses, low streets and underground parkades in minutes. A car that sat in water, even for an hour, can have damage that keeps showing up for months. We buy flood-damaged and water-damaged cars as-is, so you don't have to gamble on repairs.

If Your Car Just Flooded: Do This First

  • Don't try to start it. If water got into the engine's air intake, starting it can bend connecting rods and destroy the engine on the spot.
  • Note the water line. Take photos showing how high the water came on the doors, seats and dash.
  • Call your insurer. Flood damage is often covered under comprehensive coverage. Report it early.
  • Disconnect the battery if you can do it safely, to reduce the risk of electrical shorts.
  • Get the water out. Open the doors, pull out floor mats and start drying the interior to slow mould.
Hidden problems appear later

Why Water Damage Is So Hard to Fix

Modern cars are full of electronics, many of them under the seats and carpet: airbag sensors, seat modules, wiring connectors and control units. Water, especially dirty floodwater, corrodes these slowly. A car can seem fine after drying out and then start throwing warning lights weeks later. Other common problems:

That's why insurers often write off flooded cars, even when they look clean.

  • Water in the engine oil, transmission or differentials
  • Mould and smell that's very hard to fully remove from carpets and foam
  • Rust forming in places that are normally dry
  • Airbag systems that can't be trusted
The water line matters

How We Price a Flooded Car

The biggest factor is how high the water reached. Water below the door sills is a much smaller problem than water over the seats or up to the dash. We also look at whether it was fresh rainwater or dirty floodwater, how long the car sat in it, and whether anyone tried to start it afterwards. Parts above the water line, and the metal, still have value.

Flooded in an Underground Parkade?

Parkade floods often hit many cars at once. We can remove flooded cars from parkades, working with your building manager on access. Let us know the clearance height.

FAQs

FAQs

Is it legal to sell a flood-damaged car?

Yes, as long as you're honest about the damage. If the insurer gave it a salvage or non-repairable status, that status goes with it.

The car runs fine after drying out. Should I keep it?

Maybe, but watch for electrical issues and smells over the next few months. If problems appear, call us.

Can you pick it up if it's still wet?

Yes. There's no need to wait for it to dry.
