End-of-Life Vehicle Disposal in Edmonton
Every car reaches a point where it's done. When yours gets there, retiring it properly takes a few small steps that most people skip, including one that has nothing to do with the engine: your personal data. Here's a complete checklist, and then we'll take care of the vehicle itself.

Has Your Vehicle Reached End of Life?
An end-of-life vehicle is one that's no longer worth repairing or can't be made safe. Common signs:
- A major repair costs more than the vehicle's value
- Structural rust that makes it unsafe or impossible to pass inspection
- Repeated breakdowns, one after another
- Parts are no longer available at a reasonable cost
- An insurer has written it off as non-repairable
The End-of-Life Checklist
Wipe your personal data
Modern cars store more about you than you'd think. If you've paired a phone, the car may hold your contacts, call history, text messages and saved addresses, including your home. Before the car leaves:
If the car won't power on, the data can't easily be accessed, but it's still worth removing the car from any linked apps on your phone.
- Delete paired phones from the Bluetooth menu
- Clear saved navigation destinations and home/work addresses
- Run the factory reset in the infotainment settings if available
- Clear programmed garage door buttons (HomeLink or similar) using the steps in your owner's manual
- Cancel any connected car app or subscription, such as remote start, tracking or roadside apps
Remove personal items
Check the glove box, centre console, door pockets, under the seats, the trunk and the spare tire well. Paperwork with your name or address on it should come out too.
Take off your plates
In Alberta, licence plates stay with you. Keep them for your next vehicle or follow registry guidance if you won't need them.
Remove transponders and accessories
Parking passes, toll tags, dash cams, phone mounts and aftermarket remote start fobs.

We buy it, pick it up for free, and send it through proper recycling: fluids drained and recovered, hazardous parts removed, usable parts resold, and the metal shredded and sold for new steel. Read more on our auto recycling page.
